Permanent Cosmetics
To achieve the best results possible, a number of our wide range of permanent cosmetic services require preparation before you arrive and follow-up after. Please review the Q&A below to find out more about your treatment.
How long will it last?
The expected life of permanent cosmetics is three to five years with regular touch-ups. It does fade over time but sun exposure really speeds up the process. This is why sunscreen is recommended for the brows especially.
Does it hurt?
You will feel a deep tickling sensation during the first pass, which only lasts a few seconds. Liquid numbing is applied, after which you will feel nothing but the slight vibration of the hand piece being used.
How long is the procedure?
Permanent cosmetic appointments usually last two hours for one area (Eyebrows, Lip Liner, or Eyeliner). Full Lip Color and Areola Reconstruction may take two and a half hours. This includes paperwork, pre-numbing and ice application afterwards.
Will it rub off if I sweat or go swimming?
Once the permanent makeup area has healed (two weeks post procedure) it will not rub off if you sweat or swim. The colored pigments are placed into the epidermis and skin heals over the pigments.
Permanent Cosmetics Pre-Treatment
If you are having full lip color and you have ever had a fever blister, you must pre-treat with a Valtrex prescription beginning three days prior to your procedure. We can supply you with this prescription.
Do NOT take aspirin, Vitamin E, Motrin or Advil at least three days prior to your procedure. Tylenol is preferred during this time.
Permanent eyeliner patients must remove contact lenses before procedure and leave them out for 48 hours or until the swelling has subsided.
Permanent eyeliner patients must NOT have their eyelashes tinted within one week of their procedure.
If you have not consulted with the technician prior to the day of your procedure, please wear your makeup as you normally do to your appointment. This will give the technician an idea of your everyday look and to better realize your expectations.
Permanent Cosmetics Post-Treatment
Eyeliner
Expect light to moderate swelling and redness for 48 hours.
Ice will be applied in the office for 15 minutes and may be applied later if needed.
Use Zylet (or Tobradex) prescription eye drops for three days following the procedure. Two drops in each eye morning and evening.
Use Lacrilube (or Refresh PM) morning and evening on treated area for five days following the procedure.
You must use new mascara to avoid contamination.
No soap to eyeliner for six days. It’s OK to get them wet in the shower.
Do not rub or pick the eyeliner.
Do not dye eyelashes for at least four weeks post eyeliner.
Avoid facials, swimming in pools, lakes, and whirlpools for two weeks.
Do not use Retin-A, Hydroquinone (bleaching cream), or glycolic products while healing for two weeks.
Lacrilube ointment and Zylet prescription will be given at your appointment.
Your eyes will be sensitive to light therefore sunglasses are recommended for your comfort.
Your eyeliner will fade some by Day 6 but will return by Day 12.
One or two touch-ups will be necessary to achieve your desired look.
Eyebrows
Expect slight swelling, thickness, and/or redness for 48 hours.
Keep glossed with Aquaphor Ointment for five days.
The color will lighten over the first few days.
No soap to the brows for six days.
Wash with water and pat dry. Do not rub them with a towel.
Avoid facials, swimming in pools, lakes, and whirlpools for two weeks.
Do not use any Retin-A, Hydroquinone (bleaching cream), Nia-24 or glycolic product while healing for two weeks.
Sunscreen must be used on the eyebrows daily to obtain long lasting color (especially @ the beach, tennis, sporting events etc.).
One or two touch-ups will be necessary to achieve your desired look.
Lip liner/Lip color
Expect swelling usually 48 hours.
Ice may be used for swelling.
Apply Aquaphor immediately after the procedure and continue this for six days. It is very important to heavily coat your lips with Aquaphor the first two to three days.
Do not take Motrin, Advil, or aspirin for any discomfort. Tylenol is recommended.
Lips must be moisturized on a daily basis in order to keep the pigment vibrant, especially the first month post procedure.
After three to four days the lips will lighten as the epidermis sloughs off. It will appear that you’ve lost your color.
In 12 days the color will gradually become darker and more vibrant.
Do not use Retin-A, Hydroquinone (bleaching cream), Nia-24, or glycolic products while healing for two weeks.
Do not scrub or pick your lips.
Do not expose your lips to the sun or tanning bed for two weeks.
Avoid swimming in pools, lakes, and whirlpools for two weeks.
It is common to lose up to 70 percent of the color the first application. This is why two touch-ups will be necessary.
Areola Restoration / Scar Camouflage
Keep area away from water for 24 hours.
No vigorous exercise for 24 hours.
No soap to the areolas for six days
Wash with water and pat dry. Do not rub with a towel.
Keep coated with Aquaphor for five days.
Avoid swimming in lakes, pools and whirlpools for two weeks.
Do not use any glycolic lotion around this area for two weeks.
One or two touch-ups will be necessary.
